![]() The County is responsible for the land use planning around station areas. Sound Transit is responsible for the planning and construction of the light rail alignment, stations and the OMF. The planning for light rail is a collaborative project between different entities. The OMF provides rail car storage and maintenance. In addition, Sound Transit will be sitting and constructing an Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF). Light rail service is scheduled to begin operations in 2037-2041. A third provisional station at SR99/Airport Road is planned, but not funded. This includes light rail stations at 164th St/I-5 (Ash Way) and 128th St/I-5 (Mariner). ![]() As part of the EVLE, light rail service will be brought through the unincorporated Southwest Urban Growth area of Snohomish County. The Everett Link Extension (EVLE) will add 16 miles of light rail, connecting the existing system through the City of Lynnwood to the City of Everett in Snohomish County. It will be completed as part of the County’s Comprehensive Plan update in 2024. In 2022, the County began work on the Urban Core Subarea Plan. This was followed by public outreach to hear from the community about their vision for the future of the area. In 2018, light rail communities work initially began by identifying “locally favored” options for light rail station locations.
